Located in the centre of the low part of Sint-Jans-Molenbeek, this building screens off the courtyard from the Merchtemsesteenweg, along which the school is located. The aim was to open the building to the public areas and to allow the private areas of the school to connect with it. The courtyard was made visually and physically accessible.
A sports hall was constructed above the existing building, the porch was expanded behind the building and provided with a roof.
The building was given a new exterior and was provided with the technology required to guarantee a healthy interior climate using the principles of “passive construction”.
This is an example building for the Brussels Institute for Environmental Management.
